Tourism impact of Agrishow reaches R$ 400 million

Research by the Department of Tourism and Travel traced the profile and spending of visitors to the largest Brazil's agribusiness event

Agrishow, which took place from April 25th to 29th, in Ribeirão Preto, has established itself as one of the main business tourism events in Brazil. Milestone for the resumption of the sector that was punished by the covid-19 pandemic. According to a study by the Tourism Economy Intelligence Center (CIET), of the State Department of Tourism and Travel, 85.2% of the participants were from outside the Metropolitan Region of Ribeirão Preto, a rate considered high.

Excluding residents, according to CIET, more than 135,000 people from all over the country attended the fair, with an economic impact – total tourist spending – of almost R$ 400 million across the region.

The quality of the event was approved. According to the survey, from 0 to 10, visitors gave, on average, 8.9 marks to Agrishow. The stay was 4.4 days and the total individual expense in the period was R$ 2,901.00.

This success was felt throughout the region. There were many cases of visitors staying up to 150 kilometers away. According to the survey, 41.7% stayed in hotels, 33.4% opted for the “hit/return” – they did not stay –, 12.2% rented properties through hosting platforms/applications, 6.3% appealed to the homes of friends or relatives, and 4.9% stayed in hostels or hostels.

As for the means of transport to reach the city, 59.1% were by car, 12.8% by plane, 12.7% by chartered bus; and 8.7% on regular buses. In addition to the fair and accommodation, the main activities and expenses were gastronomy (47.1%), shopping (30.7%) and nightlife/bars (29.8%).

Training

To carry out the survey, CIET trained researchers residing in a settlement in the region, selected in partnership with the São Paulo Land Institute (ITESP). With the qualification, these same professionals can be hired by other research centers, such as Seade, IBGE and Fipe.

During the Agrishow, CIET also trained the teams of the Secretariat of Tourism of Ribeirão Preto and Sertãozinho so that they can use the statistical data of the sector that are made available by the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel of the State.
