Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar, Núcleo Picinguaba

Picinguaba (Picinguaba Nucleus)

To reach Núcleo Picinguaba, the road is BR 101 (Rio-Santos). The main entrance is in Praia da Fazenda, km 11, 40 kilometers far from Ubatuba and 30 kilometers far from Paraty. Its management headquarters is in this same road, at Km 8.

To walk through the forest and through the ecosystems that form the Atlantic Forest, to bath in the waterfalls with crystal-clear waters or in wild beaches, to visit a historic Casa de Farinha (Flour House) and to get in contact with the native people are some of the attractions of Núcleo Picinguaba, which is part of Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar (Serra do Mar State Park). Its strategic location in environmental terms links Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar (approximately 315,000 hectares), Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina (80,000 hectares) and Área de Proteção Ambiental - APA (Environmentally Protected Area) of Cairuçu, in the State of Rio de Janeiro (30,000 hectares), making up a long "corridor" that is home to a diversified and, unfortunately, endangered fauna. Floresta de Picinguaba (Picinguaba Forest) is the only stretch of Parque Estadual da Serra do Mar that reaches the rocky coasts of the sea, spreading over seven beaches. Covering an area of 47,000 hectares of the city of Ubatuba, Núcleo Picinguaba comprises Vila Picinguaba, a village of fishermen in Cambury beach, and a small group of homeless people in Fazenda Picinguaba.
