Estação Ecológica Juréia-Itatins
With approximately 80,000 hectares, it stretches out over the cities of Peruíbe, Iguape and Pedro de Toledo. There is a customer service available during the holidays.
Juréia is part of Lagamar, a region that extends for 200 kilometers from the city of Iguape to Cananéia, in the south coast of São Paulo, and from Antonina and Paranaguá, in the north coast of the State of Paraná. Lagamar is one of the three main ecosystems in the world in terms of primary productivity, and also one of the few unpolluted regions of the South Atlantic Ocean. Lagamar is home to hundreds of water flows that go down Serra do Mar, rivers, lagoons, mangroves and a sea protected by islands such as Cardoso, Comprida and Peças. Aside from its environmental importance, Lagamar is a landmark in the history of São Paulo: it was there that the Portuguese Martim Afonso de Souza arrived in 1532 and started colonizing the state.
