Parque Estadual Intervales


This park stretches out over five cities: Ribeirão Preto (where its main entrance and headquarters are), Guapiara, Iporanga, Eldorado Paulista and Sete Barras. Bairro Intervales km 25 - Ribeirão Grande.

Parque Estadual Intervales (Intervales State Park) comprises part of Serra de Paranapiacaba and is one of the most important remaining forest areas of the state of São Paulo since it is home to several different types of plants and animals, some of which endangered species, and also because it is well-preserved. Located between two valleys - Paranapanema and Rio Ribeira de Iguape - the park is home to an extensive drainage system protected by the Atlantic Forest. Intervales is part of the so-called "ecological continuous area" of Paranapiacaba. This region is a priority pilot area for the implementation of Reserva da Biosfera da Mata Atlântica (Biosphere Reserve of the Atlantic Forest). It was considered by Unesco a worldwide biosphere reserve.
