Estação Ecológica dos Chauás
The road to arrive at Parque Estadual de Pariquera Abaixo (Pariquera Abaixo State Park) is Rodovia Régis Bittencourt (BR 116) up to Pariquera Açu, km 465. In the city, take Braço (12 kilometers) up to Fazenda Lombadinha; then, take a right, ride one kilometer and arrive at the park's facilities. Yet to Estação Ecológica, take Rodovia Régis Bittencourt up to the cross between Rodovia Biguá-Iguape, in the city of Maracatu. After that, take Estrada de Iguape, then the road to Pariquera-Açu for 10 kilometers and you will arrive at the south side of the unit.
The Iguape-Cananéia estuary complex, in the extreme south of the State of São Paulo, is a fantastic place. The thousands kilometers of mangrove that extend until Paranaguá, in the state of Paraná, are a nursery for the South Atlantic sea life. The forests on the coast and the woods of the shore plain are home to thousands of different types of animals, some of which endangered species, such as papagaio-da-cara-roxa. Estação Ecológica dos Chauás (Chauás Ecologic Station), former Reserva Estadual do 18o perímetro (State Reserve of the 18th perimeter) is in Iguape. With an area of 2,699 hectares, the station is an important area for the studies on caxeta (ambay pumpwood), a tree found on the banks of Rio Momuna (Momuna river) whose light wood is used to manufacture pencils.
