Portuguese

Responsible for the discovery of the "new land", the Portuguese were our first colonizers.

By mixing with the native population and later on with the African slaves, the Portuguese came to form the core of this blended culture known as the Brazilian culture.

After Brazil's Independence and throughout the 19th century, the difficulties faced in Portugal and the poverty of a country that was gradually losing its foreign lands and getting involved in colonial wars led the Portuguese to become once again attracted by Brazil, encouraged by the fact that both countries spoke the same language.

These immigrants worked in several different areas, especially in commercial activities.
