Japanese
The first Japanese that came to Brazil arrived in 1908.
The Japanese immigration was possible thanks to a supported immigration planning. At that time, Brazil lacked labor force and was facing difficulties with the Italian government concerning the immigration of Italians.
Most of the Japanese settled in the state of São Paulo. First, they went to work on coffee farms, and gradually became small and medium rural owners. Unlike other immigrants who left rural areas and moved to the city, the Japanese stayed in the countryside and diversified the vegetables, fruit and poultry raising productions.
