Spanish

The Spanish have been here for a long time. However, the period during which Brazil received the largest number of Spanish immigrants was in the end of the 18th century, who came to work at the coffee crops. The first ones to come were from Andalusia, followed by those from Catalonia, and from the Basca region and Valencia.

The Spanish came primarily to the state of São Paulo: the 1920 census showed that 78% of the entire Spanish population in Brazil lived in São Paulo.
