Teatro Oficina

During the 60's, Teatro Oficina was an important avant-garde and resistance center to the country's authoritarian years. Engaged in translating, on metaphorical terms, the years of dictatorship, from 1967 on, Teatro Oficina evolved with the play "O rei da Vela", which was prohibited by the Federal Justice. It was listed by the historical heritage and the building was renovated by the architects Lina Bo Bardi and Edson Elito. Today, Teatro Oficina is supported by Secretaria Estadual de Cultura (State Department of Culture). The theatre keeps all memories of its contesting and avant-garde history, which can be seen in newspaper clippings, rehearsing notebooks, manuscripts, leaflets, videotapes, posters and pictures.
