Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo

Since the beginning of the 20th century, Liceu de Artes e Ofícios de São Paulo has been home to a significant collection of real-sized plaster statues, replicas of the most important classical works of art of the Western art history, which provide students with an example of the beauty transcendence.

In 1980, combining art and technology, Liceu opened its Cultural Center with the presentation of the Multivision show called "Arte é Humanismo" (“Art is Humanism”), which became part of São Paulo’s cultural circuit.

The presentation, commanded by computer, shows the art history from the Ancient Greece up to the Renaissance period through this collection by making use of lightning and color effects on the sculptures, together with a carefully prepared text, easy to understand.

The presentation shows two thousand years of art in 35 minutes in an unique environment.

Most visitors who attend the show would not have the chance of learning what art is in such a didactic and original way. To see the original versions of Liceu’s statures, it would be necessary to travel through several European countries.

As of 2001, Liceu has also been home to an exhibition called "Imagens do Liceu: Trabalho dos Mestres" (“Liceu’s Images: the Masters’ Work”), which includes photos, engravings and illustrations that depict the period from 1895 to 1950, and which counts on the unforgettable participation of Liceu in the development of the City of São Paulo.
